Every three years the PNA holds a convention where we invite association members from across the country to participate in the development of the PNA’s 3-year strategic plan.

Strategic Objectives

Communications

Strengthen our overall PNA communications both internally and externally so that communications best meet organizational goals, values and purpose

Activities

Hire a part-time Communications Coordinator (CC) who would work under the direction of the PNA Executive and National Board and would be responsible for coordinating Association communications both internally and externally. Position to be evaluated after a six-month trial.
Create a Communications Advisory Board (CAB) – the CAB would assist the Communications Coordinator in developing an overall PNA communications Policy and a Strategy, as well as help in the generation and gathering of material for both Contact and the PNA website – cbcpensioners.ca.
With the assistance of the CAB and CC consider the role of social media for the PNA i.e.: should the PNA participate more fully in social media, if so, which platforms should the PNA engage in?
Participate and contribute to the retiree survey in order to gather and understand information specific to Communications.

Recruitment

This Standing Committee exists to ensure that the CBC PNA establishes a valid and strong representative body of CBC retirees in order to maintain and strengthen the PNA’s position as “the sole voice for all CBC Pensioners and an advocate and defender of pensioners’ rights”.

Activities

Establish a Standing Committee on Recruitment – with no more than 10 members initially including one from each of the 8 regions, one surviving spouse and one from the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This Standing Committee exists to ensure that the CBC PNA establishes a valid and strong representative body of CBC retirees in order to maintain and strengthen the PNA’s position as “the sole voice for all CBC Pensioners and an advocate and defender of pensioners’ rights”.
Identify and share best practices in member recruitment across all regions. Provide common tools that can be used and adapted by each region, including member communications kit.
Lead in the development and conduct an all inclusive, in-depth retiree survey targeting members, non-members, surviving spouses, foreign retirees and deferred retirees.
In cooperation with the CBC and Unions, establish on-going pre-retirement work-shop delivery to future retirees. Develop further retirement information modules delivered prior to or after retirement. The first module would be “preparing for retirement” – managing your retirement from CBC.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The PNA aspires to be an inclusive and diverse organization, achieving broader representation in leadership roles at all levels, and within the membership as a whole.

Activities

Approve and implement the Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
Establish a Standing Committee on Diversity and Inclusion – this committee would be made up of 1 representative from each region and representatives from other groups to a maximum of 10 members.
Provide diversity awareness training for all levels of PNA leadership.
Participate and contribute to the retiree survey in order to gather and understand information specific to Diversity & Inclusion.

EDI Guide

Advocacy

Advocate internally and externally for the well-being of CBC/RC pensioners.

Activities

Recommendation: to amend the PNA By-Laws giving all members the democratic right to vote for the Executive Leadership of the Association.
Work with developing strong relationships with CBC/RC nationally and then regionally and with all unions in the same manner i.e.: first nationally and then regionally.
To lobby the CBC/RC to have all retirees automatically enrolled in the PNA Association on their retirement date.
Participate and contribute to the retiree survey in order to gather and understand information specific to Advocacy.
